Can you read, write, speak and listen fluently in a language other than English?
Did you know your heritage-speaking students may earn up to 4 World Language competency-based credits by demonstrating high proficiency levels in their heritage language?
If you are a student in grades 7 - 12, you can earn up to 4 high school credits in a world language. North Kitsap School District is proud to offer the Seal of Biliteracy and Language Credit Competency Testing. The Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Education has established the protocols for managing this program. Through the test, secondary students can earn one, two, three, or four credits in the student's chosen language.
Receiving four credits earns the student the state Seal of Biliteracy, pending meeting graduation state standard in English Language Arts. Secondary students at Kingston Middle School and Kingston High School, Poulsbo Middle School, and North Kitsap High School can register to take the test once in the fall and once in the spring.
We offer to test in the following languages. Testing for these languages is $30.00:
- Arabic
- Cantonese
- Chinese (simplified and traditional)
- French
- Hebrew
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Mandarin (Simplified and Traditional)
- Russian
- Spanish
The following languages are available with a $140.00 testing fee:
- Albanian
- Amharic
- Hindi
- Laotian
- Persian Farsi
- Samoan
- Thai
- Vietnamese
- Tagalog
