General Content

Computer Applications is a required semester class that focuses on basic computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Office 2016 and web based applications. The goal of this course is to help students improve their ability to efficiently use technology and computer programs.  All work will be completed on computers running Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016 and the JasperActive training software.  The Microsoft Office Specialist Certification tests provided for students to take are not affiliated with schools, but recognized by businesses worldwide. A district provided Office 365 email account will be used for access to online content used in the course.

 

Grading (Subject to change)

The Poulsbo Middle School grading policy will be in effect (see the student handbook).Grading criteria also includes:

  • (70%)Jasperactive Lessons for PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • (15%) PowerPoint, Word and Excel Projects
  • (15%) PowerPoint, Word and Excel Certification Tests

 

Homework / Late work / Absent work

No Required Homework.  Make-up work will be the student’s responsibility when s/he returns and is due by the end of the semester. You will need to check Skyward, the class OneNote and/or contact the teacher to determine what work needs to be made up if you are not sure. Also, you may check the class website that links to the class OneNote for all the directions and requirements related to assignments.

Office Hours: (Times subject to change for meetings and schedule changes throughout the year)

  • Monday: 2:25 – 3:15
  • Tuesday: 2:25 – 3:00
  • Friday: 2:25 – 3:00
  • Students may come in during 8th grade lunch to work with a pass. Be respectful of the Yearbook class.

 

Classroom Procedures & Expectations: “The Golden Rule”

  1. Treat everyone the way you want to be treated. It starts with you.
  2. Be prepared and in your assigned seat when the bell rings.
  3. No food, or drinks in class. (Water is allowed).
  4. The ONLY items allowed in class is your planner and a water. Keep everything else in your locker.
  5. Cell phones will be off and out of sight. Leave in your locker if that is a problem for you.
  6. Listen attentively to instructions so you can ask good questions when you miss something.
  7. Students are NOT allowed in the computer lab without a teacher present.
  8. Always log on under your own name and please log off when you leave class each day.
  9. You are expected to follow the NKSD Technology Code of Conduct outlined in The Electronic Information System Acceptable Use Policy Release form. Violators may lose the right to use the computers at the teacher or district’s discretion.

 

You will need to read this over with your parents and have them email me that they have read it and understand it.

 

DO NOT TURN IT IN TO ME!

 

If there is no email to me by next Wednesday, you will not be using the computer until it is done. Be responsible.
