FAQs

Important Information for 8th grade student athletics wanting to play football for NKHS in the fall:

It doesn’t seem that long ago we were wrapping up another successful season on the field and now I can’t believe we are already looking forward to the start of another Viking Football Season.  The reason I am writing you is to fill you in on a great opportunity we have and I need to ask for your help.  I recently met with a new fundraising company called Custom Fundraising Solutions.  For a few years I have been looking for a way to help raise funds solely to help kids pay for football camp at CWU.  Well, we have come up with a new and exciting way to do this, it requires no selling or knocking on doors for you or our players.  All it requires is that we spread the word to all of our contacts through social media.  The new fundraiser is call “The Mattress Fundraiser” .  It’s exactly what it says, we are going to sell mattresses, well not us, but the fundraiser is people purchasing mattresses.  I am going to ask all parents to attend our Spring Football Meeting on Thursday, May 16th from 630 pm to 730 pm in NKHS commons.  We will be going over a lot of items that evening about spring football, practice schedule, summer lifting and conditioning schedule, spirit packs, fall schedule and most importantly summer football camp and how to can go to camp for free this summer.  Camp will run about $350, minus the $100 we give to each player.  We will provide in detail how each player can raise enough funds to cover the balance of camp and possibly pay for his participation fee in the fall.  There will be a rep from Custom Fundraising Solutions at this meeting and she will describe in detail how easy and successful this can be for our program.  Another reason I would like for everyone to attend this meeting is because Custom Fundraising Solutions will donate $5 dollars for every adult who attends this meeting to our football program.  You can hopefully see this 1 hour will be well worth your time and I hope you will attend to help make this a great start to another successful Viking Football season.  You will be receiving another email that has a flier with info about this opportunity.  There is a you tube video you can watch and it will show how this opportunity works.  Please take 2 minutes and watch the video.  If you have any questions please email me at jweible@nkschools.org or call me at 360-981-6972.  I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, May 16th at 6:30 in the NKHS commons.

 When is practice?

Once school starts practice will start PROMPTLY at 2:50 pm and we will end practice at 5:00 pm from the field.  We will practice Monday-Friday.

What does my student/athlete do with his football equipment bag during school?
When student/athletes arrive at school (whether dropped off, walk or ride the bus) they can head over to the equipment shed and it will be unlocked. They can put their bag in there and go to their first period class until school lets out. The shed will be unlocked by a custodian or a coach and they should head straight to the locker room to change. Their personal items can be left in the locker room and will be locked until after practice lets out.

Will my student/athlete play Varsity or Junior Varsity?

Teams will be divided by the Jamboree (a scrimmage/practice game between 3 other school teams)

Teams will be divided and student/athletes will be on either team depending on skill level not necessarily their grade.
This is our second season having 2 full Varsity and Junior Varsity teams with a full schedule for each team.
Last year we had 52 players and Varsity was a near even split of 7th and 8th Graders. So there are opportunities for 7th graders to play up.
Though as a coaching staff we strive to keep all coaches and athletes learning the same plays, positions and are encouraged to compete everyday to prove themselves.

Transportation to Away games and after games?
All athletes will travel to Away games together on a district school bus or charter bus.
This year we are doing something different and requiring all traveling athletes to ride the bus to and from games as a team.
Parents, family and friends are encouraged to come support us at our games but will pick up their athlete from Poulsbo Middle School upon return.

Student eligibility?
ALL student/athletes MUST attend practice to earn a position and attendance plays a factor in their playing time.
Student/Athlets describe everyone that is a part of the Panther Football Team and it is destinguished that way for a reason. We are STUDENTS first ATHLETES second. Being an athlete of Panther football is a PRIVILEDGE! It is their responsibility to keep up with their grades and behavior on and off the field. We encourage to build strong leaders learning more than just the game of football. We are building Leaders, Responsibility, Accountability, Courage, Confidence and Strong Active Contributors of the North Kitsap Community.

How do I find what my student/athlete grades are and how they are doing in classes?
Students AND Parents have access to their student/athletes' grades. You can login to the NKSD Skyward account.  If you do not know your account information contact the school or District office.
If your student/athlete is being mindful of their behavior and actions, completing their homework and turning it in, attending classes also completing all test and projects they will be eligible for all GAMES.

Attendance if your child is sick, injured or will miss an event?
Please notify the coach by email, written notice or phone call if you know your child will be absent from school, practice or a game.
Attendance is mandatory! And any and all soreness, sickness or injury should be addressed to one of the coaching staff. We do not want to further any injury or sickness therefore knowing ahead of time will help shorten the recovery time necessary. An athlete can learn more being involved in practice and drills even if they are not participating.
BUT we do not need distractions. If an athlete is too sick to attend practice or school they need to be home to recover, catch up on homework or rest.
Student/Athletes are under our supervision during practice times and should not be walking the neighborhood, school campus or off-site away from a coaches supervision at any time. If you have any question about your child being at or NOT showing up to practice please contact one of our coaches and we will confirm their attendance since roll is kept every day.

Make-up test, tutoring or just late to practice?
If a student/athlete has to stay after class for any reason a note must be turned into a coach to be allowed at practice. Tutoring, make-up work and study time is encouraged with prior authorization or by note.

My child has a doctors appointment or was seen by ANY physician at any time for injury, check-up or health concerns?
If your child visits a health care physician they must get a note clearing them to participate in practice or limitations recommended with a time frame. If no not is received or no time frame is given then they must return to that physician with a clear description of extent of injury and clear for practice. If an athlete needs a note for any physical activity that goes for P.E. as well as Football participation it cannot exclude one or the other.
